- Ray Steggles has designed a new medicine, combining
an antibiotic with edible plant substances, which are formulated as a paste
used for treating advanced periodontal disease. Early results are remarkable
with previously loose teeth tightening and restoring biting. It has been
designed to overcome the normal resistance shown by bacterial biofilm to
antibiotics. The plant substances interfere with bacterial communication,
confusing them so they absorb the antibiotics, which kill them. Once the
bacteria are removed healing takes place more effectively than has been
previously achievable.
- You may have heard in the news about theoretical risks of
passing vCJD from infected root-canal instruments and new guidelines issued
by the Department of Health to not re-use the instruments on other patients.
You can be assured that all root-filling instruments are not re-used, and at
this practice this has been the case for many years.
