Making your treatment decisions
With all the information from the planning process you will have a range of options, sometimes a few, occasionally many. Through the planning process we will attempt to narrow down the options to fit in with your aspirations so the choices don't become overwhelming.
The printed treatment sheet shows the options and the cost of carrying them out. Unless a report is written by the dentist (which may be done for treatment valued over £1000 unless there are exceptional circumstances) the pros and cons of each treatment won't be listed. Instead, with simpler treatment options we will explain the differences. The receptionist will go over them with you, and our advised option is usually clear. You may be given information sheets for certain types of treatment.
As part of the planning, the timing for at least one treatment appointment will be noted so the receptionist can make your next appointment, if you have decided what to do. We would prefer you to have made a clear decision rather than commit yourself and us to a long appointment, then have second thoughts later.
Comprehensive reports written by the dentist
The dentist may write one where he decides there could be complications, or treatment is being considered of an experimental or risky nature, or particularly complex issues are involved. This should help you make your decision, and there is no additional cost for you.
Where extensive treatment, particularly cosmetic, such as when back teeth are to be treated to make space for front crowns and veneers, is being considered a report is produced, which is charged for and costs £150. Usually a person has specifically requested this type of treatment and the report sets out the pros and cons of the treatment, so an informed decision can be made. Where the treatment plan is carried out we will generally discount treatment to refund the £150.
